TV
Yellow was formed on the campus of Ohio University
in Athens, Ohio in the spring of 1995 as the house band for
the famous Dugout Lounge on Court Street. For over three years
the band played under the name Kid Charlemagne playing cover
songs for beer money while releasing a self titled, self produced
debut record. It was this recording that generated interest
from the Smokehouse record label to which we have recently
signed a three record deal.
In the spring of 1998, the band planned to
move to Los Angeles. However, interest from the label kept
us at bay and we stayed in Ohio to write and record our debut
record as TV Yellow. The name change came about upon relocation
from Athens to Cincinnati. The band moved into a big house
and lived together for the first time. The change of atmosphere,
personal experiences and emotional growth spawned a new attitude
within the band. The product of this growth was a change in
musical direction to a more classic, groovy sound.
The music changed so drastically that a name
change as in order and that is when Kid Charlemagne became
TV Yellow. For those not familiar with the name, it is a reference
to a guitar finish that was produced in the 1950's. The purpose
was to reduce the reflection of light into television cameras
of the day. In terms of the sound of the group, bands like
Led Zeppelin, the Black Crowes, Lenny Kravitz and the Faces
all have a hand in inspiring our music. Retro grooves and
emphasis on vocals are key elements in our music. However,
our influences are very broad. They run the gamut from Joni
Mitchell to the Crusaders.
This band has undergone much change and growth
in its first five years of existence. Come experience the
music with us and work your way into becoming a part of our
history. See and feel the changes with us and we will share
the music with you. Adam, TV Yellow
