I will eventually get around to re-coding the old videos as flash videos. In the mean time, you'll still need QuickTime to see the old vids. |

If you haven't done so already, this might be a good time to install Cooliris on your computer. It works on IE and Firefox for both PC and Mac and lets you browse photo albums on the AMN as well as sites like Flickr, Google, Yahoo, Myspace, Facebook and others. There are hundreds of Blackoutfest photos. Other photos include: ACRN's 32'nd Birthday Party, Wheels on Fire, The Makebelieves, and We March at the Union |

Pasquali Reanimates for Halloween Show -It is safe to say that Pasquali guitarist Jarrod Whittington, bassist Jeremy Foltz, and drummer Joel Walter are lifelong friends and have been since the second grade. They share a common sarcastic wit and childish sense of humor. For instance, they can still crack each other up by saying "balls" over a four-way conference call interview for the AMN. Over the years, they've seen the best and worst of each other. They've fought over stupid things, helped each other recover from failed relationships, supported each other through deaths, weddings, through life-altering events, and even though they currently live in separate time zones, they still manage to practice with each other via mp3 files. That sort of dedication is enough to make some people puke. [ continued ]

Mayor Wiehl Helps "Action Committee" Raise Funds For PA System--Eats a Lot of Chili in the Process. - On Sunday the 19th, a community group called the "Action Committee" held a chili-cook-off and fundraiser in the backyard of 35 Brown Street. The goal of the event was to raise enough money to purchase a communal PA system. The house goes by the nick name, "Brown Town." It is one of several Action Committee-run houses that regularly host music acts. The Florida punk band, This Bike is A Pipe Bomb, and the New York based surf-punk band, The Vivian Girls, are two of the better-known national acts that have played at Brown Town in the recent past. It was a sunny, comfortable
afternoon. This sky was jet blue and cloudless and the backyard at
Brown Town was packed with punks of all ages, the press, and even a politician.
The mayor of Athens accepted the Action Committee's invitation to
judge 16 meat and vegan chill dishes. The remaining two judges included
a very popular regional hip-hop artist, Jesty Beatz, and a local
musician and contributing writer for the Athens Musician Network, Pencil. [ continued ] |

Amish
Electric Chair CD Release and Winter Tour - Amish Electric Chair
is touring the southeast this December to promote a new CD recorded
by the band in their Athens apartment during the winter break 2007.
Although the record was mastered and officially finished in February
of 2008, lineup changes postponed the release until the current members
were up-to-speed on the old material as well as their own new material.
There are other reasons for touring late in the year. "It sucks
in the winter here, so we're trying to get out of here," stated
vocalist and guitarist Neil Turri, obviously, referring to Athens'
annual transformation into a ghost town during Ohio University's
month-long winter break as well as horrible weather. "Everyone is
gone from Thanksgiving to New Years here, so we are just getting
out of here." [ continued ] |

The
Wooly Lemons - Last night I was playing a show and we had our friend
Todd Parish (drummer for the Wooly Lemons & co-owner of Rhythm Section
Studios), join us to play some percussion and sax. I had heard that
the Woolys have a new album coming out soon, and wanted to do an
interview with the 'em, so I asked Todd about it, and it turned out
the best time to do it was tomorrow morning, 11am, a little early
for a rocker, but I decided to go for it. So I roll out of bed, jump
into a cold shower (my water heater is broken), throw some Doom 'Total
Doom' into the CD player, and travel on up to Logan, home of RSS
studios and practice space of the Wooly Lemons. [ continued ] |

Guide: Why Does My CD Sound Different on the Radio? -
You've spent a lot of time and/or money tweaking your latest recording.
You've played it in your car, on your home stereo, in your computer,
and on a boom box. Each time, you adjust the recording until you
think it sounds perfect almost everywhere. Then you hand your recording
to a radio station. They play it, you hear it, and to your horror,
the recording sounds absolutely nothing like it did during all your
previous experiments. What happened? You raise your fists into the
sky and proclaim, "Why
does my CD sound different on the radio?" [ continued ] |

Interview:
Spooktober, The 13th Month On The Calendar - Brian C.R. and bassist
Miguel Evanosky first met while Miguel was working at the Burrito
Buggy here in Athens, Ohio. One night, drunk and bored, Brian talked
his way inside the buggy and volunteered to cook chicken and beef
so that Miguel, a vegetarian, wouldn't have to handle meat. "I was
really annoying that night and got in fights with the customers," said
Brian during an online interview with the AMN. [ continued ] |

Interview:
Ray Houska and For Real Fest 2008 -
Ray Houska is currently a first grade teacher in Lancaster, Ohio. However,
back in 2004, he was an Ohio University student and singer for the
hardcore band, Street Sharks. It was then that Ray reached out to
his music contacts in Athens and Cleveland to organize his first
DIY and basement shows. Athens is home to many music festivals, and
yet Ray saw a niche that was not filled. He created an all-ages music
festival, geared for the counter culture, but welcoming to all who
wished to participate. And so, "For Real Fest" was born. A
festival that's name is destined to be misspelled by every newspaper
in town. [ continued ] |

The Revulvas, Reloaded - The Revulvas, originally formed in 2005,
have recently added a new guitarist, Britt, out of Columbus, formally
of Ragdoll Radio and Teenage Grenade (both from Cleveland). She brings
a new "bluesy, rockin, solo-in style to the band". I had a
chance to sit down and chat with The Revulvas about their new lineup
change; after all, they were just hanging out in my kitchen. [ continued ] |

Review: Creator / Destroyer by We March - Hot on the heels of their first ever seven-inch (or vinyl for that matter), WE MARCH's 3rd full length, CREATOR/DESTROYER comes blasting from the gate at full power as evidenced by the opening track "Beep Beep Beep" (which also appears on the seven-inch). These long time vanguards of all things punk in A-town show no signs of slouching. The result of recording for over a period of what I can tell is about two years (basic tracks laid down in October '05 and mixing and mastering engineered between March '06 and February.'07), this, in my not-so-humble opinion is their best effort to date. Is it the better-than-ever recording job that sets this apart from their previous release, THE MADNESS ENDS HERE? Maybe. Is it the fact that many of us have been waiting for almost two years for this record to come out? That's getting closer. Although, I have to give it to the boys for keeping us happy with a couple-o-sneak-peaks here and there. Is it the really tiny lyrics in the insert? No no no. [ continued ]

Review: Magreenery by Papadosio - Papadosio's latest release, entitled Magreenery, showcases the band's unique attempt to blend your grandfather's favorite jam grooves into an contemporary electronic soufflé. Forcing these two divergent forms of music into a viable chimera is no easy task. Typical jam fans do the elbow-spin-dance for organic grooves, organic clothing, and organs played by organisms, like humans. Electronica, on the other hand, rewards those who posses the technical skills to program clever loops, patches and the ability to push sound-processing apparatus to the limit of their design. Electronica artists often create sonic soundscapes unachievable by the human hand or analog instrument. The trick to appreciating Papadosio is to not think of their music as strictly jam or electronica. Instead, one needs to focus on the properties shared by both worlds. For example, both forms of music inspire listeners to dance and they both inspire trance-like mental states. Simply put, Papadosio creates music to dance and trance to. [ continued ]
