We March To Open For Green Day!?!! No Kiddin...Posted On: Wed May 14 2008 15:10:07 EDT- [ permalink ]
Jeremy called me to let me know that Green Day was added to our bill at the Stork Club and that we might have been booted from the bill. Jeremy helped out big time by pushing for us with the owner and booking manager. When I told the guys in the car, Curtis called the club, and we're not off the bill at all. We're still playing. We're the first band of a three-band, sold out show featuring Green Day playing under a pseudonym. WOW!

Road RoundupPosted On: Wed May 14 2008 15:07:03 EDT- [ permalink ] In what seems like a continuing theme, the shows at clubs have been disappointing while the shows at underground clubs and house parties have been way better than I could hope for. Starting with Denton TX at Extreme Dude's Party Manner. It was their last show for the school year and the place was packed with attentive punk kids willing to mosh and have a good time. IT was hot and folks were going crazy. The place smelled like a gym locker by the time we were done playing. Lubbock, TX was another pleasant surprise. We played at a large house that has shows on the weekends to help out touring bands. Lots of people showed up. We went on last, and the crowd started to taper off, but those that stayed moshed and bought some merch. We also each got our own bed or couch to sleep on, showers, and free food. Plus, there was a trampoline out back. All in all, a great time. Tuscon's Grumpus Room is really just that: a room. It is somebody practice space that has been decked out to hold the occasional show to help out touring bands. Half the crowd was female, which was a pleasant surprise. At most there were 30 people there at the peak, about 15 for us since we were on last. However, at one point during our set, there was an all-female mosh pit! Wow! We found a place to crash, thus avoiding paying for a hotel, and sold / traded some merch. The shirts continue to be popular. We had a great show and I have to say, this show to a small but very attentive crowd was the most fun I've had for while. San Diego's Chaser's Lounge, formerly known as Scalari's Office, is evidently the equivalent of Columbus, Ohio's High 5. If you've played either place, you know they have a tendency to over book shows and guess what, they did it again. We were on first, early, on a bill that was supposed to have 2 bands but ended up having 4. We were followed by a weird artsy band and a Frank Zappa wanna-be band. Both bands were talented, but everything from their clothes to their demeanor screamed west-coast elitist. You could tell these guys were trying to act like dirty hipsters. Los Angeles is tonight. Lets hope that show goes well. Signs point to yes, but you can never tell.
