Open Jam at O' Hooleys August 30, 2005, 7:04 pm - permalink
Every Tuesday an old tradition was resurected at O'Hooleys Pub on Union street. An open invitation for musicians to come as share the stage for the night. None of the music is rehearsed
or otherwise premeditated. Basically there are no rules. Any it usually turns out to be a joyous experience for all involved. Recently however there have been those who are working against the common cause. They have used this night as a tool to imporve their popularity and there social standpoint with the ladies. Thats not what the night is about. Furthermore and much more importantly, I notice the musicians fighting for volume because certain assholes with less than satifactory musical training think they should be heard over everyone. I frequent the open jam as a musician almost every tuesday. And 90% of the time its nothing less than a blast. But as the students start to come back it is up to everyone there to listen to each other; give everyone a chance to shine, and if you just plain suck, GO HOME AND PRACTICE and stop ruining everyone elses fun. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.
