By Roman Warmke - 10/17/2002
The Jerry Douglas Band and "Jorma Kaukonen & Blue Country", featuring Jorma Kaukonen, Barry Mitterhoff, Cindy Cashdollar, and Byron House will perform in concert at Ohio University's "Templeton- Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium" in Athens, Ohio on November 3rd, 2002.
Jerry Douglas has been described as the Jimi Hendrix and the Charles Parker of acoustic music. The New York Times has called him "dobro's matchless contemporary master." He has won five Grammy Awards, several Grammy Acknowledgments, and countless specialized awards. Though he got his start in Bluegrass, he has made an impact in fields ranging from rock and roll to jazz, from blues to Celtic, from mainstream country to contemporary classical.

Guitar master and renowned blues scholar has gathered his all-star cast of some of country music's most accomplished and passionate players on his debut album for Columbia Records entitled, "Blue Country Heart". An exploration of a little known chapter in American music history. Blue Country Heart reveals a new turn in Kaukonen's ever-evolving career. A collection of rural blues songs from the 1920's and 1930's -- written mostly by white tunesmiths including Jimmy Rodgers, the Delmore Brothers, Washington Phillips, Larry Hensley, Cliff Carlisle and Jimmy "The Singing Governor" Davis.
Jorma Kaukonen and his wife/manager, Vanessa Kaukonen established the Fur Peace Ranch in 1998. The Fur Peace Ranch is nestled in the rolling foothills of southeast Ohio. A seasonal instructional facility, year round restaurant, concert hall and conference center - The Fur Peace Ranch is a positive place to better explore the potential of your favorite instrument and to learn from and listen to some great musicians. The Kaukonen's had this idea to include a Saturday night performance included in the workshops they offered. It became so popular the series soon outgrew the small but intimate space at the ranch reserved for these concerts, which prompted them to build the new 200 seat Fur Peace Station Concert Hall. The warm reception was further exemplified when the local Public Radio Affiliate (WOUB-FM 91.3) expressed interest in recording the concerts for regional distribution, which brought the sounds of the Fur Peace Ranch into the living rooms of music aficionado's throughout the region through a radio program called "Live From The Fur Peace Ranch".
On November 3rd, they team with Ohio University "Performing Arts Series" to bring this fabulous show the hills of southeast Ohio. Ohio University's "Templeton- Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium" in Athens, Ohio seats 2000 people.
